WWRC has access to Rehabilitation Engineering services onsite and in collaboration with DARS regional rehabilitation engineers to modify, customize, or fabricate assistive technology to enable individuals with disabilities to live more independently. WWRC maintains a large fabrication shop with full fabrication capability.
The goal of rehabilitation engineering is to provide clients with recommendations, guidance, and customized assistive devices. When jobsite accommodations are needed for a client to be successfully employed, these services may be available to an employer through coordination with a regional rehabilitation engineer. The scope of rehabilitation engineering services is as diverse as the challenges that WWRC clients encounter.

The Medical Rehabilitation Program is managed by a physician who is an experienced and Board Certified Specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is responsible for all the clinical services provided at WWRC including:
WWRC admissions criteria require clients be medically stable and able to fully participate in their rehabilitation program. However, WWRC provides 24/7 nursing and attendant care to clients residing at the Center under the direction of the WWRC Physician. WWRC partners with the regional medical center (Augusta Health) to provide emergency and acute medical care, if needed.
Nursing staff provide direct personal care, education on health and self advocacy, and episodic nursing interventions for clients in comprehensive rehabilitation programs who live in all of WWRC’s residency options: Barnett Hall, Carter-Ashley Hall and Rothrock Hall. Nursing staff advocate for the highest quality nursing services which support a client's fullest participation in an individualized rehabilitation program to achieve optimal personal independence and employment when returning home.
Clients with physical and/or cognitive disabilities requiring assistance with their personal care and/or monitoring while receiving therapy and/or vocational services use Rothrock Hall as their residential option. Each client is assigned a Primary Nurse who assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the client's individual plan of care. The Primary Nurse collaborates with the client, family, and WWRC rehabilitation team to monitor progress towards the client’s goals.
Clients residing in Barnett Hall, Carter-Ashley Hall, or who attend WWRC as a day student may access health care services in this clinic staffed by nurses working under the direction of the WWRC Physician or Physician’s Assistant.
